Following the resignation of Babar Azam as the captain, Pakistan has announced new captains in different formats. A few hours back, Babar took to X and announced his resignation from captaincy from all the formats in international cricket. The move from Babar came as he was criticized for his captaincy in the ODI World Cup 2023 by the former cricketers, which was not great for Pakistan.

Babar Azam sent a heartful message to X as he talked about his captaincy in Pakistan. The Pakistani player was announced as the captain of the team in 2019. Since then, Babar has been the full-time captain of Pakistan for more than 4 years in all three formats. Babar remembered the special moments under his captaincy. In his message, Babar thanked everyone who helped him to become the captain of the side.

Just hours after the announcement from Babar, the Pakistan cricket board took to X and announced their new captains in different formats. Since Babar was the only player who was consistent in all the formats for Pakistan. It has left a huge void in leadership for Pakistan, who now find themselves in a tricky situation. It has led them to announce two different captains for red ball and white ball formats.

Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi to take PAK forward

Pakistan announced Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi as their new captains. The Asian side appointed Shan Masood to lead them in the longest format of the game. The southpaw has scored a lot of runs in recent years in domestic cricket. Masood has the experience of playing in county cricket. In the recent Test series against Sri Lanka, Masood had some good performances with the bat.

Shaheen, on the other hand, has achieved a lot already at a very young age. The left-arm pacer is the second most popular cricketer in the country. In limited-overs cricket, Shaheen has the knack of picking wickets and is one of the most performing players. It has prompted Pakistan to ask the youngster to take over the responsibility of leading the team in T20Is.
