Recently, a fire broke down in the dressing room of the prestigious cricket Ground, Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on 7 August 2023. The fire broke out somewhere around late midnight, and major renovation work was underway in the stadium ahead of the marquee tournament, the ODI World Cup, 2023. The fire was blown out as soon as possible, and the situation was brought easily under control. Multiple reports claim that the fire broke out in the false ceiling of the dressing room and a lot of damage was caused.

It is also expected that September 15 is the date when the renovation of Eden Gardens is set to be completed, and the governing body’s personnel would arrive at the venue for a review soon. The fire incident can now be a cause of concern for the authorities. However, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly recently came forward to give an official statement regarding the issue. Ganguly claims that no harm was caused to the dressing room during the fire and it was blown out while the situation was still under control.

Snehasish Ganguly also claimed that the cable wires will be changed and the review of the governing body’s authorities’ decision will not be affected due to the sudden fire outrage.

“A fire broke out last night at 11.50 pm. People who were working here saw smoke and then the fire. Immediately, two fire tenders were pressed into action and flames were doused in no time. There was no damage to the dressing room as such. Only some cables were burnt,” said Snehasish Ganguly while talking to The Hindu.

It was revealed that the cause of the fire was the heating of the sauna heater from which sparks spread to the stacks of towels kept close by. Ganguly opined that the cables will be changed soon and no review will be affected. “Certainly there is no sabotage angle,” added the CAB President Snehasish Ganguly.
