The ODI World Cup 2023 is heading to the final weeks of the league phase matches. Match number 37 is set to be played at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday. India and South Africa will play in what is the top-of-the-table clash as both teams have qualified for the semi-finals.

The Indian team has played seven games and is the only team left that is yet to lose a game. Rohit Sharma and his side beat Sri Lanka by a whopping margin of 302 runs on Thursday in Mumbai in their last game.

South Africa has won six games and each time scored over 300 runs in each of the games. Their only loss came to the Netherlands side by 39 runs in Dharamshala while chasing. Temba Bavuma and his side went into the final four on Saturday after New Zealand’s loss to Pakistan in Bengaluru.

Inclement weather likely in Kolkata

The Eden Gardens in Kolkata wore a hazy look as the overhead conditions were overcast to begin the day on Sunday. A capacity crowd is expected to watch the game between India and South Africa on Sunday.

There is a strong possibility of a few showers during the game. Kolkata like Bengaluru is known to have excellent drainage facilities. The maximum temperature could be between 31- 33 degrees. As the evening falls, the temperature could go down to 23 degrees.

Dew could play a huge role for the team batting second hence the skipper winning the toss might want to bowl first. The outfield has been electric throughout the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament across India. Fast bowlers will get a lot of purchases with the new ball. The spinners could also play a key role once the ball gets old and the pitch eases up.

As far as the batting is concerned, expect the batters to enjoy the ball coming on nicely during the early part of the game. Reverse swing is another key factor to look out for as it was shown by Mohammad Wasim Jr during the game against Bangladesh last Tuesday. Both the teams are likely to go in with the same team and a cracking contest is on the cards.
