Ousted selection committee member hits back at Indian Cricket Board, accuses them of ‘interference’ – Reports
On November 18, the Indian Cricket Board sacked the entire selection committee led by Chetan Sharma. The decision was taken in response to India’s semifinal loss in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Not just this, there were many reasons for their ouster. Inconsistency in the selection, not selecting the right, multiple captains in a year. After the decision, one of the four ousted members lashed out at the board.
The unnamed selector has claimed that the board must take the blame instead of the committee members. He added that the rotation policy for the players wasn’t entirely of their own and the board members suggested the same. He also said that he and his team were made scapegoats.
“BCCI has thrown us under the bus when they clearly know they should take the blame as well. The captaincy decision was not entirely our own. There was constant interference in selection decisions. The rotation policy in place came as advice from BCCI and it was of course logical. But they now blame us for having 8 captains in 9 months. They have made us the scapegoats,” one of the ousted selectors who wished to remain unnamed told InsideSport.
Some of us didn’t want to remove Virat Kohli as captain: Ousted selector
Notably, the same selector has also ‘dropped a massive bomb’ on Virat Kohli‘s ouster as ODI skipper. For the unversed, he had left the T20I captaincy post the 20-20 World Cup 2021. Ahead of the South Africa tour early this year, the right-hander was removed as captain which became a massive controversy. Meanwhile, the selector has revealed that some of the members were willing to let him lead the team till the 2023 ODI World Cup.
“I won’t name anyone or a group. But it was not completely the selection committee’s decision to go with new captain for all formats. Some of us wanted to have Virat for white-ball formats until 2023 WC. But ultimately, Virat was removed. Many in the BCCI did not support multiple captains for multiple formats,” the selector rebuked.
