New Zealand lost the first Test to Australia by 172 runs on Sunday. The loss meant that the Kiwis had lost control of the top spot in the World Test Championship. It has come to light that pacer William O Rourke has injured himself ahead of the second Test.

There are reports doing the rounds that Neil Wagner could come out of retirement for the Kiwis. The pacer who turns 38 in the next ten days had announced a tearful retirement just a few days before.

This news was relayed to Pat Cummins the Australian skipper at the end of the game. The 30-year-old took a slight dig at the prospect of Neil Wagner coming out of retirement. Nathan Lyon’s six wickets helped Australia bowl out New Zealand in the 2nd innings.

Pat Cummins takes a massive swipe at New Zealand –

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has come up with a hilarious reply when asked about Neil Wagner’s possible comeback. “World’s shortest retirement. I mean, why not? If he’s your next best bowler that you think is going to perform, then go for it. I’ve faced him before. It’d be good to see. He’s high energy. It’s been good fun chatting to him each morning out here, so see how he goes” said Pat Cummins.

Tim Southee the Kiwi skipper also addressed the Neil Wagner reports at the end of the game. The veteran pacer said “We obviously have to go on and make a decision on who comes in and what role we sort of see that playing out in Christchurch”

“Wagner’s had a great reception here over the last week where he got a couple of moments on the field and obviously he’s been a fan favourite for a long time,” remarked Tim Southee. Kyle Jamieson who had just made his comeback to the game has suffered yet another injury setback. The tall pacer is set to be out for at least a year in already an injury-ravaged career.

Speaking about the injury to William O Rourke, the Kiwi skipper said “We haven’t had a lot of discussions as yet. We’ll see how Will scrubs up. The physio hasn’t sort of put a time frame on it or how bad it is. We’ll just wait and see how Will goes over the next couple of days. I’m sure there’ll be an update in the next 24 hours”
