In less than 48 hours Pakistan will take on Australia in the first test match in Perth. Pat Cummins and Shan Masood will walk out for a toss on Thursday with World Test Championship points at stake.

The upcoming series is also special for David Warner as he is set to retire from test cricket. David Warner 37-year-old has been in the eye of the storm due to comments made by former teammate Mitchell Johnson.

Perth has historically been known to have the fastest cricket pitch in the world. W.A.C.A may not be hosting test matches anymore but the OPTUS Stadium is just as quick. The focus and talking point was the pitch just two days before the game.

Pakistani fans fretting after first glimpse of Perth pitch –

It isn’t the sight the Pakistan cricket team or fans were anticipating to see from Perth. The first glimpse of the pitch showed how green the surface looked. This is not what Shan Masood and his side would have wanted.

Pat Cummins would love to unleash Lance Morris and Mitchell Starc on this pitch. Lance Morris in particular is one of the best upcoming Australian bowlers. The youngster can bowl fast and clock high speeds. What makes Lance Morris more dangerous is his talent for short-pitched bowling.

Pakistan hasn’t won a series in Australia and is coming on the back of some tumultuous times. Babar Azam had recently stepped down as the skipper after an unsuccessful ODI World Cup campaign in India.

Australia meanwhile are the reigning Test match and ODI World Champions. Pat Cummins has led his side to both the titles and on each occasion beating India in the final. The Australians will aim for a series clean-sweep in a bid to displace Pakistan from the top of the WTC points table.

After the Perth test, both teams will break for Christmas festivities before flying to Melbourne. It is expected a packed crowd in MCG will welcome the two teams for the traditional Boxing Day test match. The start of 2024 will witness SCG host the test match as David Warner will bid goodbye to test cricket in front of his home crowd.
