 Sourav Ganguly shares heartfelt message for ‘exceptional’ Virat Kohli ahead of his 100th Test

Former Indian cricketer and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has congratulated Indian stalwart Virat Kohli ahead of his milestone 100th Test match. BCCI has shared a video on social media in which Ganguly spoke about Kohli’s historic feat.

In the video, Ganguly mentioned that how every cricketer aspires to play 100 Tests for his country. The left-handed batter, who himself has played over 100 Test matches for India, emphasized that Kohli’s milestone was a great moment for Indian cricket.

Kohli has represented India in 99 Test matches so far in which he has scored a total of 7,962 runs with an amazing average of 50.30. The 33-year old batter also has 27 centuries and 28 fifties under his belt in the longest format of the game.

As team India will take on Sri Lanka on March 4, BCCI has also allowed the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) to open gates for spectators at 50% capacity to cheer for their star batter as he looks to end his long standing century drought in the highly-anticipated encounter.

Speaking in the video BCCI posted Ganguly said, “It’s a huge landmark in any cricketer’s career. Playing 100 Test matches is something you dream of when you start playing for the country. It’s a great moment for Virat and it’s a great moment for Indian cricket.”

“I’ve personally been in that situation of 100th Test match and I realize how momentous and how humongous is the occasion for any cricketer. Virat’s had a great journey. Starting 10-11 years ago and getting to where he has reached today is an exceptional achievement. Congratulations to him, his family and his coach and all those who have been involved in Virat’s cricket career. I wish him all the best for this Test match and hope he performs very well,” he added.
