‘Prince ko miss karenge’ – Fans react as Shubman Gill misses India’s first match of ODI World Cup 2023

India’s star opening batter Shubman Gill is all set to miss out on the first match of India’s campaign in the ODI World Cup, 2023 which will be hosted by India at self across 10 multiple venues. The team will take on the most successful team in the tournament, Australia, on 8 October at the M Chidambaram Stadium (popularly known as the Chepauk Stadium) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Fans can witness the live action from 2 PM IST on the Star Sports Network. 

There were multiple reports that Shubman Gill has been diagnosed with dengue fever and will most probably miss the first match of the tournament. However, there were multiple reports that it was just regular fever and Shubman has been caught in the weather, the team’s head coach, Rahul Dravid confirmed that Shubman Gill will try his best to recover with all the proper medication. 

However, it seems like Shubman Gill could not make it for the first game and Ishan Kishan will bat as his replacement as the opening batsman along with the captain Rohit Sharma.

While highlighting Shubman Gill’s absence from the team, at the toss Rohit Sharma said, “The conditions are there for the bowlers and the ball will turn as the game goes on, you need to understand what line and lengths to bowl and adjust accordingly. We played a lot of cricket before that, we played two good series before the warm-up games, we have covered all bases. Unfortunately, he (Shubman Gill) didn’t recover in time, we waited till today morning and he couldn’t recover. Ishan comes in to replace him, he will open the batting.”
