‘Proteas defeated chokers’ – Fans react as South Africa win rain affected 2nd T20I by 5 wickets

South Africa beat India in the second T20I at St George’s Park. The home side won the toss and was elected to bowl first, rightfully so. South Africa made the best use of the conditions on offer. It was not easy to bat in the middle, as there were some early swing to offer for the pacers. South African bowlers bowled in the right areas and dismissed both the Indian openers for a duck.

India came back pretty well after the early setback, thanks to the fifties by Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh. The two batters helped India to score 180 runs in 19.3 overs. Tilak Varma batted well in his brief stay in the middle. But, it was the partnership between Yadav and Rinku that helped India to get to the margin of 180-run mark.

Gerald Coetzee and Tarbaiz Shamsi were brilliant with the ball for South Africa. The duo bowled well and restricted India to somewhere around the par score. Due to the interruption of rain, the match was reduced to 15 overs. The revised target for the home side was to chase 152 runs. The reduced number of overs allowed the batters to go bonkers against the Indian bowlers.

South African top 3 batters take the game away from India

The South African top 3 really targeted the Indian pacers for fun in the first few overs, Arshdeep, in particular, was belted by the South African batters. In his first 2 overs, the left-arm pacer conceded 31 runs. Reeza Hendricks scored 49 runs in 27 balls and laid a brilliant platform for the run chase. But it was the start from Breetzke that sealed the game for the home side in the first few overs.

Aiden Markram batted well and scored 30 runs in 17 balls. South Africa were 96/1 after 7.4 overs and well ahead in the run chase. India inflicted a mini collapse, as they claimed 3 wickets in an interval of 8 balls, conceding 12 runs. But the duo of Davis Miller and Tristan Stubbs ensured no more hiccups, as South Africa cruised through the target to seal the game by 5 wickets.
