MS Dhoni is arguably the most successful Indian captain. He has won all three main tournaments – the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013. Talking of his exploits in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he recently won the record-equalling fifth title with Chennai Super Kings in the previous edition of the lucrative franchise league.

The 42-year-old has also scored the most runs in an Asia Cup tournament as a captain. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored 648 runs in the 19 matches he played as a skipper of the Men in Blue with a stunning average of 64.80. He has scored one century and three half-centuries in this competition. The Ranchi-born cricketer is known to have a calm and composed approach in under-pressure situations.

India to face Pakistan in their Asia Cup 2023 opener

Dhoni has captained team India in the most matches of Asia Cup’s history. He has a win percentage of over 60%. He has won nine out of 14 matches. Dhoni led India to an Asia Cup title back in 2010. This was a four-team tournament where they defeated Pakistan and Bangladesh but lost to Sri Lanka in the group stage. Dhoni was also part of Indian Cricket back in 2018 when the Men in Blue lifted the title under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to kick start on August 30. The first match of the tournament is set to be played between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan, Pakistan. India will play their opening fixture of the Asia Cup against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The last edition of the Asia Cup was won by Sri Lanka, which was played in the United Arab Emirates.
