The Indian-origin New Zealand’s opening batsman Rachin Ravindra recently made history as he became only the second batsman to score 2 centuries in the ODI World Cup before turning 26 years old, after Sachin Tendulkar, who was 22 years and 313 days when he achieved this milestone.

Rachin Ravindra scored a century against Australia in the 27th match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala during the ODI World Cup 2023 in a high-scoring encounter.

Rachin Ravindra scored 116 runs off 89 deliveries with a strike rate of 130.34 as he hit nine fours and five sixes while chasing a target of 389 runs. Ravindra’s century went in vain as Australia won the match by five runs.

However, he joined a list of elite players who have previously scored two centuries in the ODI World Cup for the New Zealand team. He joined Glenn Turner, Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson who achieved this milestone in 1975, 2015 and 2019 respectively.

Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra’s performance against Australia

The New Zealand cricket team captain Tom Latham congratulated the New Zealand squad for their brilliant performance despite losing the match against Australia the post-match ceremony, he said, “Fantastic game of cricket, ebbed and flowed throughout the 100 overs. To come so close obviously hurts, but a fantastic game. They put us on the back foot straight away and at that point and it was about containing them and keeping taking wickets. He (Phillips) bowled well under pressure, to come and bowl 10 overs and pick up 3 wickets it was really crucial. Great to see the work he is putting in and it is paying off.”

“The openers got us off to a fantastic start and Rachin played a fantastic knock, one of the better ones you will see chasing. It was a great effort and I am proud of the guys. It (Dharamsala) is a fantastic place to play cricket. Just want to say all the best All Blacks (New Zealand rugby team) can’t wait to watch the final and hopefully they bring the World Cup home”, added Latham.
