New Zealand’s young batter, Rachin Ravindra recently gave a stunning performance against England in the opening match of the ODI World Cup, 2023, which was held on five October. Rachin Ravindra scored a striking century against England to lead the team towards victory and valuable points on the points table of the world’s biggest tournament.

India’s former head coach and one of the most successful spin bowlers Anil Kumble believes that Rachin Ravindra shows potential just like Yuvraj Singh in his younger days. Anil Kumble was left absolutely mesmerised after looking at Rachin Ravindra’s recent performances in the warmup games and the first game of the ODI World Cup 2023.

“We saw what he’s capable of in that warm-up game (against Pakistan) when he opened the batting. But this was very special, you know, in his World Cup debut against the defending champions to back the way he did. This was my first sort of treat of Rachin Ravindra. He looks a bit like Yuvraj Singh, a young Yuvraj Singh in his flow. Very elegant. So wonderful,” said Anil Kumble.

“Great to have a great day. Boys bowled and fielded well to restrict them to 280. Luckily I had Devon out there to show me how to do it. (I am) Very very close with Devon. Special to finish it off with him. 4-5 years ago, we all knew Devon would become the player he is. Above all, he’s a great guy. It was yesterday (because of) the thing (niggle) with Lockie (when did he know he’ll bat at three?). Good to get the opportunity. We’ll see what happens. I’m actually quite a good sleeper luckily. There was some swing, but the surface was really good to bat on”, said Rachin Ravindra in the postmatch ceremony.

“It’s a fantastic performance. Fantastic partnership between Rachin and Devon, but it was set up at the start. Fantastic effort with the ball to restrict them to 280 on that surface, it was a total below par. Credit goes to our bowlers for that effort. Been a pretty good build-up since the warm-up games. We have played in these conditions in the last year or so, that is really important. Ravindra played a fantastic innings and I am super proud of the way he has come out and played his best innings at that position”, said Tom Latham while appreciating Rachin Ravindra for his knock against England.
