The former Chief Selector of the Indian Cricket Board Chetan Sharma has resigned from his position on Friday amid the sting operation controversy by Zee News. Chetan sent his resignation to the Board’s President Jay Shah who accepted it without any delay.

The former Indian player was in Kolkata for the final match of Ranji Trophy between Bengal and Saurashtra at Eden Gardens, in order to select the players for the upcoming Irani Cup. He then left for Delhi as soon as his resignation was accepted to avoid the waiting media at the Delhi airport as reported by NDTV Sports.

In a viral video, Chetan has been seen putting various allegations on the players and the management. He alleged that many players used to take injections to expedite their return to competitive cricket despite being 80 to 85 percent fit.

He also mentioned about the difference of opinion between him and the management regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s return from a stress fracture for the T20I series against Australia in September 2022. He also told that Hardik Pandya used to come to his house for discussing his future in the Indian team.

He also revealed that there was no rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and it was the former President Sourav Ganguly who was responsible for removing Kohli from the captaincy in all the formats.

“Coach Rahul Dravid, captains Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have completely lost faith in him. He couldn’t have possibly sat across the table along with them for selection committee meetings as he had lost all respect. He paid the price for being a big mouth,”said the source of Indian Cricket Board.

“The call came when he was in between his two stints (as chairman of national selectors) and perhaps spoke a bit more… like insinuating that Hardik Pandya would chill out in his Delhi residence. Hardik has never been to his house. Saying things about Virat Kohli…,” the source further added.

Chetan Sharma was re-elected as the Chief after Board’s new President Roger Binny sacked the entire selection committee after Team India’s semi-final exit from the 20-20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. Chetan was selected with new people under him.
