 Rape accused Danuskha Gunathilaka granted bail, strict condition levied

In a surprising turn of events, Sri Lanka batter Danushka Gunathilaka has been granted bail after being in jail for 11 days. He was arrested on the charges of rape on the morning of November 6 in Sydney. A day before that, his national side played their last game of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. The left-hander was injured during most of the tournament but stayed with the team.

For those who don’t know, the police report says that he committed the said offense on November 2. Meanwhile, after the arrest, the investigation gave some incriminating details. Apparently, the investigation says that the woman asked him to wear a condom which he declined. Also, he forced himself upon her and choked her nearly to death. After sustaining such brutality, the victim had sore and swollen lips.

The next morning, she decided to tell her friends about what she survived last night. Not to forget, she also took some counseling services and saw her doctor the morning after the alleged sexual assaults. She has also mentioned that she has been subjected to ‘social media harassment.’

Meanwhile, after being in jail for 11 days, the left-hander has been released on bail. This is surprising and shocking at the same time given the gory details of the case. Coming back, Gunathilaka appeared in his prison greens in Sydney Downing Centre on November 18. He made a desperate request for release, backed by a $200,000 surety provided by a “friend of a friend”.

Talking about the restrictions, he has made ordered not to access his social media accounts. Also, he won’t be able to leave Australia as his passport has been surrendered.
