 Ravindra Jadeja is most tested Indian cricketer for doping, not Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma -Reports

Like all the Olympics sports athletes, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) even tests the cricketers for doping. According to a recent report by NADA, 55 cricketers have been tested for doping during the initial five months of 2023 till May. This amounts to 58 samples that were received from various cricketers, and more than half of these samples were marked as ‘ out of competition’. 

NADA is expected to conduct approximately 60 more tests in the second half of 2023. In the year 2021, and 2022, a total of 54 and 60 samples were collected from various cricketers. Out of 55 cricketers who have been tested this year, there is one cricketer who has been tested thrice from January to May. 

India’s ace all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja got his urine sample tested thrice in the first half of 2023. Jadeja was tested on February 19, March 26 and April 26. It is interesting that India’s former all-format captain and current captain. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, resp., have not been tested even once this year.

India’s current T20I captain Hardik Pandya was tested once in April 2023, and the test was declared as an out-of-competition test. Virat Kohli has not been tested even once since 2021. Before Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma was the most tested cricketer as he turned his sample prize in 2021, and 2022. 

Other Indian players who got tested by NADA in 2023 are Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Chahar, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Wriddhiman Saha, Dinesh Karthik, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ambati Rayudu, Piyush Chawla and Manish Pandey.

A few international players were also tested by NADA during the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023), these were – David Wiese, David Miller, Cameron Green, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, David Warner, Rashid Khan, David Willey, Trent Boult, Marcus Stoinis, Mark Wood, Adam Zampa, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone and Jofra Archer.

Sportspersons across a few other sports who underwent dope tests during this year include Olympic medallist weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth, wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat, hockey players Harmanpreet Singh, PR Sreejesh and Savita Punia, among others.
