Ravindra Jadeja praises spin-partner Ravichandran Ashwin as the spinner eyes new milestone against England
Team India is currently hosting England for a 5-match Test series. Ravichandran Ashwin has been one of the finest off-spinner for the side. He is standing in the verge of becoming the third off-spinner to pick 500 Test wickets. He is currently just 7 wickets away to achieve the milestone. The veteran off-spinner picked three wickets in the first innings of the Test match as the hosts bowled Ben Stokes’s side for 246 runs.
His spin partner Ravindra Jadeja believes that Ashwin will pick 500 wickets in the 1st Test itself. Ashwin and Jadeja went past Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh’s combined tally of 501 wickets in 54 matches to become the most successful Test bowling pair for India. These two have been the star for the home side when it comes to bowling in the subcontinent conditions.
The Men in Blue are currently trailing by 50 runs with Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul in the crease. The latter is almost nearing 50 runs and is looking good and Iyer has been playing the role of the aggressor with 18 off 31. They will hope to take the lead of more than 100 runs in order to challenge the English Lions.
It will be a big achievement: Ravindra Jadeja
Praising Ashwin at the end of the opening day’s play, Jadeja said, “It will be a big achievement if Ashwin completes 500 Test wickets and I hope he gets it in this match. I am left with 25 wickets for 300 and it might take the whole series, but I wish Ashwin completes his 500 in this game itself and continues taking wickets for India.”
“I really enjoy bowling with Ashwin, it is really helpful with two spinners bowling in tandem. We share a lot of messages around field setting, line and length and we are happy to contribute to India’s win. We really enjoy the competition.”
Jaddu also picked three wickets and Axar Patel two with the spin trio of the home side have picked 8 wickets Jasprit Bumrah picked two wickets. Rohit Sharma’s side is yet to loose a test series at home in last 11 years.
