‘Remember the name’ – Twitter goes insane as Narayan Jagadeeshan creates improbable World Record in List-A cricket
Uncapped India player Narayan Jagadeeshan has shattered a few records on his way to 277. In the Group C encounter of Elite Group against Arunachal Pradesh, the right-hander was in no mood to spare the opposition. In the game, AP won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, little did they know that their decision would be ‘historic’ for the opposition.
Tamil Nadu openers, B Sai Sudarshan and Jagadeeshan put together 416 runs for the first wicket. The latter scored 277 runs although he missed out on a triple hundred. He got out in the 42nd over. However, this doesn’t take away the fact that she has shaken the world record books. With this inning, he went past Alastair Brown’s 268 that he scored against Glamorgan in 2002.
The Tamil Nadu player also surpassed 271 not out by Sripali Weerakkody against Pushpadana Ladies in the 2007 Sri Lanka Women’s One-Day tournament. Thankfully, for the Rohit Sharma fans, this record wasn’t made in international cricket. Meanwhile, Jagadeeshan became the first player in LIST A cricket to score five back-to-back hundreds. Previously, three batters had four centuries in a row – Kumar Sangakkara in 2014-15, Alviro Petersen in 2015-16, and Devdutt Padikkal in 2020-21.
Also, Jagadeeshan’s strike rate of 196.45 the highest for any double hundred in men’s List A cricket. The previous highest was 181.1 by Travis Head when he scored 230 off 127 balls against Queensland in 2021.
Tamil Nadu becomes the first team to score 500 runs in One Day cricket
Meanwhile, thanks to the heroics of Jagadeeshan and Sudharshan, Tamil Nadu amassed 506/2 at the end of the innings in the ongoing game. With this, they have become the first team to cross the 500-run mark in One Day Cricket. The previous highest was 498 for 4 by England against the Netherlands in June this year.
