Indian Cricket Board’s secretary Jay Shah was in the press conference on the 9th of December to discuss some of the key developments in Indian cricket. In the event, Shah discussed about some key factors like the hosting of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), the decision on the extension of contract with Rahul Dravid the Indian coach, the future of senior players in the T20I side, and the captaincy of India in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Shah said that the WPL 2024 season would be played in a single state. The secretary of the Indian Cricket Board confirmed that the matches would take place in three stadiums in Mumbai and in Pune. Jay further spoke about the extension of the contract with Dravid as the Indian coach till the end of the T20 WC 2024.

He revealed that the discussion for the same would happen after the conclusion of the series against South Africa. With that, Shah was asked about the captaincy of India in the T20 World Cup 2024. He was honest about the chances of Indian seniors in the side for the big tournament in the shortest format. He revealed the plans of the board regarding the future of senior players.

Shah reveals about Rohit’s place in T20 WC 2024

Shah said that since there is a lot of time for the T20 World Cup 2024 to commence, nothing has been decided yet, Hence, the clarity for captaincy could not be provided. “What is the need to have clarity right now? It (T20 World Cup) is starting in June; we have the IPL before that and the series against Afghanistan,” said Shah in the press conference.

Further, when asked about the spot of senior players in the side, Shah said that the spot of no player in the team is confirmed. The Indian cricket board’s secretary said that Rohit Sharma or any other player does not command a spot in the playing XI. It is interesting to note that senior players like Rohit, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami have not played a T20I for India in more than a year.
