 ‘Richard Kettleborough bhi hai’ – Fans react as International cricket board announces umpires for inaugural and other matches in ODI World Cup 2023

International cricket board has announced the officials for the inaugural match and the other matches of the ODI World Cup 2023. For the season starter in Ahmedabad between New Zealand and England, the likes of Nitin Menon and Kumar Dharmasena are announced as the on-field umpires. Along with the on-field umpires, the international cricket board has announced the TV umpire, fourth umpire, and the referee for the match.

Shahid Saikat and Paul Wilson are announced as the fourth umpire and the TV umpire for the match respectively. Javagal Srinath is announced as the match referee for the match. It will be the maiden appearance of Menon, the India based umpire, in the ODI World Cup. The 39-year-old happens to be the youngest umpires in the elite panel of the list of umpires for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Kumar Dharmasena created history in the 2015 World Cup and became the first person to take part in the ODI World Cup final as both player and umpire. In the 1996 World Cup, Dharmasena was a part of the Sri Lankan team in the final. In the 2015 ODI World Cup, the Sri Lankan umpire was one of the on-field umpires for the match between Australia and New Zealand in Melbourne.

International cricket board confirms the umpires for the inaugural match 

The international cricket board confirmed the list of officials for the inaugural match in one of its statements. “Kumar Dharmasena and Nitin Menon will be the on-field umpires for the opening match of the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 between England and New Zealand,” revealed the international cricket board in its statement. Dharmasena was the umpire in the final of the 2019 World Cup.

Saikat of Bangladesh will create history by becoming the first ever person from Bangladesh to be a part of the World Cup panel of umpires. Many umpires from the previous edition of the tournament are retained. Barring Dharmasena, the likes of Richard Illingworth, Rod Tucker, Richard Kettleborough, Marais Erasmus, Paul Reiffel, Joel Wilson, Michael Gough, and Chris Gaffaney will also take part in the event.
