Rinku Singh reveals the reason behind writing 50 on his palm before the Rajasthan match
Kolkata and Rajasthan faced off in the 47th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. On a slowish pitch batters from both the teams struggled to score runs fluently. In a low-scoring match, Kolkata emerged victorious by 7 wickets.
Rajasthan batted first in the match and posted a moderate total of 152 runs from their 20 overs. While chasing the target the going got tough for the men in purple as the Rajasthan bowlers showed great discipline in their bowling. But a steady knock from Nitish Rana and a counter-attacking effort by Rinku Singh ultimately ensure that Kolkata won the match in the final over of the game.
Rinku’s quickfire 42 off 23 balls helped Kolkata break their five-match losing streak and register their fourth win of the tournament in ten matches. After the match in a conversation with Nitish Rana revealed that he had written ‘50’ on his palm going to sleep on the night before the match. He said- “I was feeling like I would score runs today, be the man of the match and I myself wrote 50 with my own hand…. And made heart.”
Rinku’s match-winning knock earned him the Player of the Match award. In the post-match presentation ceremony, Rinku spoke about the chance he got and the way he converted it. He talked about the long wait of five years he has to endure before a regular in the first eleven of the franchise.
“A lot of players have played Ranji from Aligarh, but I am the first to play in the ITL. This is a big league and there is a lot of pressure obviously. I have been waiting for the last five years to get a chance,”- said Rinku.
Speaking of Kolkata’s campaign in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League, they are now placed at the seventh place in the points table with 4 wins from 10 matches. They will have to now win all of their remaining matches in the tournament to keep their hope of qualifying for the top four alive.
