Rishabh Pant set to receive 16 crores despite missing upcoming Indian T20 League edition
At a time when Rishabh Pant is dealing with multiple injuries, the Indian Cricket Board has taken a great step for him. He is set to miss out on the upcoming Indian T20 League 2023 and quite a few international games. Meanwhile, the board has made sure the left-hander gets his fee, from the board and the Delhi franchise. According to his national contract, the wicketkeeper batter gets five crores INR annually.
Apart from this, the Delhi team in the Indian T20 League pays him a disturbingly huge sum of 16 crores INR for an entire season. Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board that the Roorkee player receives a sum of 21 crores despite him not playing. For the unversed, all centrally contracted players are insured.
As per the norms of the board, these players in event of missing out on the cash-rich league due to injuries get paid in full by the board. Not the concerned franchise but the insurance company takes the entire BILL.
Rishabh Pant is doubtful for the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup this year
On January 6, the 25-year-old underwent knee surgery. He suffered two tears in his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL). Rishabh was operated by Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. His knee surgery was complex as it involved both ACL & MCL surgeries.
Pant will take a minimum of four months to recover from the surgeries. He may take another two months to regain full match-fitness. With this, he might miss the Asia Cup, to be played in Pakistan this year. Also, his selection for the ODI World Cup in India is doubtful as by the time he makes a comeback, another player might cement his place.
