Rishabh Pant was not happy at this Indian batter during India’s tour of Australia in 2021
In 2021, India had a memorable tour to Australia as they managed to defeat them in the Test series at a margin of 2-1 at their home. During the third Test in Sydney, India showed a lot of character to earn a draw. Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Hanuma Vihari, and Ravichandran Ashwin were the main players who fought throughout that innings.
Now, in a recently released documentary “Bandon Mein Tha Dum”, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant opened up on his dismissal during that Sydney Test. He expressed his disappointment in Cheteshwar Pujara for advising him to avoid any big shots, close to that three-digit mark.
“I got a little angry that they put me in this double-minded state.” – Rishabh Pant
In the documentary, it has been shown that Pant recalled the moment that Pujara told him during that innings of the Sydney Test. He said: “Rishabh…try to stick. You can work in singles and doubles too. You don’t have to hit a boundary. I got a little angry that they put me in this double-minded state. Because I like it when I’m very clear in my plans that this is what I want to do. We had built such good momentum. In my mind, the only thing at that time was ‘damn, what just happened?’ Because if I reached 100 there, it would have been one of my best.”
His claims were approved by Ajinkya Rahane also as he also said that Pujara was telling him to slow down from the other end. He said: “Pujara from the other end was telling him to slow down. We can score runs later. When an experienced player comes and tells you, ‘Now wait, you’re on 97 and you’re playing well, but now if you play a little sensibly you can make your 100. He was backing his game but unfortunately, he got out,”
“When he came in, he was disappointed and angry and he said, ‘Pujara Bhai came and reminded me that I was on 97. I wasn’t even aware. Had he not said anything, I would have probably completed my hundred,” Rahane concluded.
