Riyan Parag shows how to shut your critics, makes Simon Doull take a U-turn on him
Bangalore and Rajasthan played against each other in the 39th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The match turned out to be an affair where the fate was decided by the bowlers.
Bangalore won the toss and sent Rajasthan into bat. The men in pink struggled throughout the entire duration in building a substantial partnership and kept losing wickets. The batters looked non-resilient, to say the least, and the only bit of resistance came from the young Riyan Parag. While he kept running out of partners at the opposite end, he looked determined to play a knock that would help his team. He ended up scoring 56 runs off 31 deliveries hitting three fours and four sixes. His antics included a special effort in the last over where he smashed Harshal Patel for one four and two sixes scoring 18 runs in the process. His efforts ensured that Rajasthan was able to put up a respectable total of 144 runs on the board. The total ultimately proved more than enough for the team as they sealed the match by a margin of 29 runs.
Parag’s special performance has definitely shut a few of his critics, who were questioning his place in Rajasthan’s first eleven. One such name is that of former Kiwi pacer turned commentator, Simon Doull. While Parag was failing to justify his talents in the earlier matches Doull came up with a comment that did not go down well with the fans. He commented that while Parag is a social media star that does not count on the field and will do no good in justifying his moderate performance on the pitch. This made the fans upset with the commentator, one social media user even called out the commentator saying that such a dig at the players was unnecessary on television. Doull however clarified that he might have been misinterpreted but the fans did not digest it.

As Parag came up with a brilliant show against Bangalore, one user pointed out Doull and asked him if he enjoyed watching Parag’s innings. The commentator also replied promptly and his stance was a 180-degree turn from his previous stance on the player. He wrote – “Yes he played really well today. Summed up the situation and was fantastic at the death…”

This is henceforth proof of the fact that while critics talk about your performance the best way to shut them is to make your performance on the field speak for you.
