In the 50th fixture of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Delhi Capitals (DC) locked horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, in New Delhi on Saturday, May 6. DC won the match by 7 wickets and star England batter, Philp Salt was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant batting performance.

Siraj came to bowl in the fifth over of the second innings but was struck by Phil Salt. On his first two deliveries, Siraj was hit for two massive sixes. Then, on the third ball, Salt ducked out of his crease and brilliantly smashed Siraj over mid-wicket. The India fast bowler bowled three balls on which 16 runs were scored before delivering a blistering bouncer that was declared wide. Siraj responded by engaging both batters in a heated confrontation.

If we talk about the encounter, after the first innings was through, RCB, who was batting first, scored 181 runs while losing four wickets. Mahipal Lomror, who hit an unbeaten 54 runs off 29 balls with six fours and three sixes in his innings, was the team’s leading run-scorer. Virat Kohli, the former India captain, also hit a pivotal fifty which helped him reach 7000 runs in the IPL.

I felt we would have to bat really well to get there: Philp Salt

DC’s openers, David Warner and Philp Salt, quickly put together a partnership of 60 runs in just 31 balls while attempting to chase down a total of 182 runs. Warner was eventually dismissed after scoring 22 runs from 14 balls, including three fours and a six off Josh Hazelwood’s bowling.

Marsh entered the crease after Warner was dismissed, however, he was dismissed after making just 26 runs off of 17 balls, including three fours and a six in his innings. In his innings, Salt scored 87 runs off 45 balls, including eight fours and six sixes, to win the game. Rilee Rossouw of South Africa scored an unbeaten 35 runs off 22 balls, including three sixes and a four.

“I spoke before the game about being positive. We knew the wicket was slow and low, and we spoke about playing off the backfoot. I thought 180 was par, I felt we would have to bat really well to get there. (On Mitch Marsh) He came in and hit the second ball for six or something like that, it put bowlers on the backfoot. Loving the support, specially here in Delhi,” Salt was quoted as saying after recieving the Player of the Match award.

After the match, both Siraj and Salt hugghed each other and the former congratulated the latter for his match-winning knock for his side. Here’s how fans reacted on social media after seeing both of them together like this:
