Reportedly, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor is all set to play the role of the former Indian skipper and the former president of the Indian Cricket Board, Sourav Ganguly, in his upcoming biopic. Four years ago, Ranbir Kapoor featured in and as Sanjay Dutt in the actor’s biopic, Sanju.

According to various reports, the script of the film was already finalized, but there was still a question about who will play the lead role in the movie. On Wednesday, Revsportz confirmed that Ranbir Kapoor will play the role of Ganguly.

The actor will soon visit Ganguly’s house in Kolkata. He will also visit his club and the iconic Eden Gardens stadium. This will be part of Ranbir’s preparation for the role of the former cricketer. Other than the lead, the remaining cast of the movie is yet to be finalized. The film will be directed by the Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherji.

There have been mixed reactions from the fans after the news of Ranbir Kapoor getting a lead role. Some users are disappointed with the cast selection and asked why not a Bengali actor for the role. While some fans termed it as the ‘perfect casting’ and assumed that it will be a blockbuster.

Ganguly was hailed as one of the most fearless cricketers and was famous for his aggression. He has played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs for India. Under his leadership, India shared the Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka in 2002 and made it into the finals of the 2003 World Cup. He also served as the President of the Indian Cricket Board from 2019 to 2022.
