Sanju Samson gives a shocking statement when compared with MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid

Despite enduring a poor season last year, Rajasthan trusted in Sanju Samson’s leadership skills and persisted with him as captain for the 2022 season as well. The management compiled a pretty squad and the results were there to be seen.
Under Sanju Samson’s leadership, the franchise went on to reach the final of the tournament but faltered against Gujarat in the summit clash. Nevertheless, Sanju Samson’s leadership received a lot of praise.
As far as his own performances were concerned, Samson scored 458 runs in 17 matches at a strike rate of 147. He didn’t play a big knock but made notable contributions in numerous games. There often been talks around his captaincy and batting and people have also compared him with legends like MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid.
Samson, however, never liked to compare him with those legendary cricketers. The Rajasthan skipper stated last year that he admires Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni’s captaincy styles but he is a bit different than those cricketers.
“I am different from Dravid or Dhoni, or anyone else. So, I try to be as natural as I am. Primarily, I try to assess the mood of the team. Often, they are all pumped up and so needn’t tell them that you should try your best. It’s sometimes the stupidest thing you would tell because everyone wants to perform to the best of their skills,” he was quoted by Indian Express after being appointed as the Royals’ skipper last year.
It is pertinent to note that Samson has played under the guidance of Rahul Dravid during his Under-19 days. He derived a lot of inspiration from Dravid and had said that the former cricketer also “motivated” the youngsters to give their best on the field.
“His speeches were profound. He often spoke of the higher purpose of life. His words had a hypnotic power to hold our attention for a long time. But as much as his speeches, he was so caring and understanding. He loved us, and thus inspired us to produce our best. That’s the atmosphere we are trying to create in Rajasthan,” Samson had said.
