BCCI bans Boria Majumdar for threatening Wriddhiman Saha
Wriddhiman Saha had been in the headlines due to non-cricketing reasons recently. He recently claimed that he received a threat on WhatsApp from a senior journalist for not giving an interview.
However, Saha did not reveal a name in his Tweet, Boria Majumdar cleared the air that it was he who the keeper referred to. He posted a short video on his Twitter account claiming that Saha has tampered and ‘doctored’ the WhatsApp screenshots to gain sympathy for the cricketing fraternity. He also spoke about serving a legal defamation notice to the cricketer for damaging his reputation.
The allegation on part of Saha came on the 19th of February when he shared a few WhatsApp chat screenshots with the caption on his Twitter account with the caption – “After all of my contributions to Indian cricket… this is what I face from a so-called ‘Respected’ journalist! This is where journalism has gone.”

Boria Majumdar responded to the allegation with a video on his account, where he wrote – “There are always two sides to a story. @Wriddhipops has doctored, tampered screenshots of my WhatsApp chats which have damaged my reputation and credibility. I have requested the @BCCI for a fair hearing. My lawyers are serving @Wriddhipos a defamation notice. Let truth prevail.”

The series of allegations and counter-allegations was followed by an investigation by the Board of Control for Cricket in India into the matter. The BCCI formed a committee that had the vice-president Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal and apex council member Prabhtej Bhatia enquire into the matter.
In a recent turn of events, BCCI has found Majumdar guilty and is has imposed a two years ban on the journalist. To quote a top BCCI official from The Sunday Express- “We will be informing all state units of the Indian cricket board to not allow him inside stadiums. He won’t be given media accreditation for home matches and we will also be writing to ICC to blacklist him. Players will be asked not to engage with him.”
