Setback for Kane Williamson after a big defeat in the first match
Hyderabad began its campaign against Rajasthan for the Indian T20 League 2022 at the MCA Stadium, Pune on 28th March 2022. Hyderabad started its journey in the worst way possible. They were defeated by Rajasthan very convincingly.
Hyderabad was outplayed by Rajasthan in all aspects of the game. Rajasthan scored 210 runs while batting first in the match. Hyderabad never looked like making a fight in their chase. They were thrown off in the very beginning of their innings as they lost 3 wickets for just 9 runs within five overs. With a bit of resilience by Aiden Markram (57 off 41) and Washington Sundar (40 off 14), they were able to decrease the margin of their defeat. Rajasthan ultimately won the match by 61 runs.
After the match, Hyderabad is left with a lot of issues to address. They have to cover up holes in almost all aspects of their game. With so many issues already concerning the captain of the team, Kane Williamson has received another setback. He has been fined due to Hyderabad’s slow over-rate in the first match against Rajasthan.
The punishment was limited to only a fine and did not lead to any type of suspension, because it was the team’s first offence in the tournament. Under the Indian T20 League’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences the fine for Williamson is INR 12 Lakhs. The team will have to be careful from the next match as another offence might lead their skipper and most important batsman to serve a suspension.
