‘Shameful’ – Fans bash match referees for cancelling a goal during Bengaluru FC vs NorthEast United match
The ninth season of the ongoing Indian Super League has just started and it is already been surrounded by controversy. In the second game between Bengaluru FC and Northeast United FC, the referees wrongfully canceled a goal from the United player. This led to the Northeast losing the game. The incident happened in the 92nd minute (the second minute of the injury time).
Apparently, United’s Jon Gaztañaga managed to net the ball to level the scores. However, the referee called it offside. The replays, on the other hand, made it clear that the officials made a huge mistake. This mistake cost the White Brigade, the game as they lost by 1-0. For Bengaluru, Alan Costa’s right-footed shot from the center of the box helped the team get an opening in the 87th minute.
Meanwhile, the video of the offside call has been going viral on social media. An internet user has uploaded the video on YouTube.

Northeast United coach assistant coach Paul Groves attended a post-match press conference and said “I think you have to consider the whole 90 minutes. And certainly, with regards to how we played, the chances that we created, I thought we more than deserve to win the game. I think if you create that many chances against the team that perhaps got the best home record in the league, I think you come away very disappointed because of the fact that the goal was ruled out and that we didn’t convert some of the chances. But the players can be proud of what they produced tonight.”
On the other hand, the fans aren’t happy with the ruling. They took to Twitter and expressed their anger.
