‘Shimron bhaiya wapas aa gaye’ – Fans react as Shimron Hetmyer makes comeback in ODIs for West Indies Vs India series

Team India clinched the two-match Test series by a 1-0 margin as the second and final Test of the series was washed out due to rain on Monday, July 24 which was played at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, in Trinidad. Star India bowler, Mohammad Siraj was awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant spell in the first innings where he snapped five wickets in his spell of 23.4 overs where he conceded 60 runs and bowled six maiden overs.

After losing the Test series, the hosts will lock horns with Men in Blue in the three-match ODI series. The first match of the series will be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, in Barbados on Thursday, July 27, while the second fixture will be played on Saturday, July 29 at the same venue as the first one. The third and final encounter of the series will be played at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, in Trinidad.

We welcome Oshane and Shimron back into the group: Desmond Hayne

The Windies have brought back their star left-hand batter, Shimron Hetmyer. Recently he had a brilliant season with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He scored 299 runs from 13 innings for RR in IPL 2023. He has not played for his national side since a T20I against New Zealand in August last year. Star Carribean pacer, Oshane Thomas also makes a comeback in the ODI squad for the team.

“We welcome Oshane and Shimron back into the group. Both have played at the international level before, with some success, and we believe they will fit well into the set-up. Oshane brings pace and is a potential wicket-taker with the new ball. Shimron’s style of batting will offer a lot, especially in the middle stage of the innings and he is also a potential ‘finisher’,” Chief selector and West Indies legend Desmond Hayne was quoted as saying.
