Shoaib Akhtar, Sanath Jayasuriya to play for Asia Lions in Legends Cricket League
Shoaib Akhtar and Sanath Jayasuriya will play for Asia Lions in the inaugural edition of Legends Cricket League (LCL). The tournament has managed to grab eyeballs due to the presence of some of the biggest names in cricket. The inaugural edition of the T20 tournament will be held in March, with three teams being finalized for the league.
Asia Lions, the Rest of the World, and India XI are the teams that will battle it out in the T20 competition, set to be played In Oman.
Asia Lions will have players from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Apart from Akhtar and Jayasuriya, the Lions squad includes Muttiah Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Azhar Mahmood, Upul Tharanga, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammed Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Mohammed Yousuf, Umar Gul, Younis Khan, and Asghar Afghan.
Ravi Shastri, who is Commissioner of LCL feels the Asia Lions are a strong team. He also said some of the players like Afridi, Dilshan, and Akhtar are absolute champions of the game.
“This is top quality exciting cricket in offer. The Lions of Asia from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh & Afghanistan coming together in one team will definitely give the other two teams a run for their money. “I tell you they are absolute champions and Afridi, Murali, Chaminda, Shoaib Malik are all playing in one team, this will be a blast.”
The India XI and the Rest of the World XI will also have some of the biggest names in cricket turning out of LCL. The three teams will play six matches in the league stage before the final. All the matches will be played at the Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Oman.
