Shreyas Iyer returns to the nets ahead of IND vs BAN Asia Cup 2023 Super Four clash
The Indian cricket team’s middle order batter Shreyas Iyer has been a constant member of the ODI team considering his back-to-back stunning performances with huge runs on the board. However, due to numerous injuries, Shreyas Iyer has missed out on a lot of international cricket in the past few months. After a slow recovery, Iyer is finally back in the Indian cricket team squad ahead of the marquee tournaments, the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, 2023.
The steady recovery landed Shreyas Iyer to the fitness tests before being selected for the biggest cricket tournament, which he easily cleared. However, due to a back spasm yet again, he has not played a single game for India in the super four stage of the Asia Cup. Recently, Iyer was seen practicing in nets ahead of India’s last game of the super stage against Bangladesh and the final match of Asia Cup.
Shreyas Iyer on his recovery and participation in Asia Cup 2023
Shreyas Iyer was named in the Indian squad for the team’s first match against Pakistan on two September at Kandy in the Asia Cup, 2023, ahead of the game, he said, “I never imagined I’ll be playing in the Asia Cup. The recovery was slow and steady. I passed the fitness test one week before selection, and I was really happy with that. I was nervous last night, I couldn’t sleep. I am super excited to play this match against Pakistan. It’s a phenomenal feeling to be honest as they are the number 1 team at the moment.”
“We are privileged to be a part of this team and journey with Rahul sir (Dravid) as the coach and under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. The spirits are high in the dressing room and we are looking forward to this game. Delighted to be playing against these (Afridi, Rauf, Naseem) bowlers, plan is just to watch the ball and play according to the situation,” added Iyer after the toss against Pakistan.
