Shubman Gill gives befitting reply to shutdown trolls

Shubman Gill the star opener of the Gujarat time gave a befitting reply to his trolls. He played a match-winning knock against Lucknow in Gujarat’s last match. But after the first innings of the match fans started trolling the right-hand batter for his strike rate in the match. As the match concluded Gill took to Twitter and gave an epic reply to the trolls.

Speaking of the match, Gujarat won the toss and decided to bat first on a slowish pitch. All the batters found it difficult to get going on a turf where the bowlers were getting assistance. But it was Shubman Gill who held one end and progressed steadily. While wickets were falling at one end Gill looked determined and resilient. Toward the end of the innings, he took on the bowlers and with the help of Rahul Tewatia’s (22 of 16) cameo, Gujarat posted a total of 144 runs on the board. Gill remained unbeaten on 63 runs of 49 deliveries. He hit seven fours during his stay but there was no six in his knock.

While chasing Gujarat’s score, Lucknow had a nightmarish start. They kept losing wickets from the very beginning. The KL Rahul-led side was reduced to 33 for 3 within the powerplays. The middle order could not muster up any resistance and the crumbled under pressure. Gujarat kept picking away wickets and ultimately bundled out Lucknow for 82 runs in the 14^th over of the innings. With a comprehensive 62 runs victory, Hardik Pandya’s team regained the top spot in the points table and also became the first team to qualify for the playoffs.

On a pitch where the ball was gripping the surface and not coming on to the bat properly, Gill displayed the perfect skill sets to score runs. His efforts also earned him the Player of the Match award. As the match concluded Gill took to Twitter and gave a savage reply to his trolls. He used the emojis of a tortoise and a rabbit to convey his message – “Slow and Steady Wins the Race.”

Gill spoke about how hard it was to score runs on the pitch. During the post-match presentation ceremony, he said – “Always pleasing when you’re there till the end and finish the game for your team. I didn’t expect the ball to seam much at the start. It was nipping around, and then I expected the spinners to get some turn,”- Gill said.
