‘Smriti finishes off in style’ – Fans Congratulate India Women’s Team After Their Clinical Victory Over Pakistan In CWG 2022
On Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games 2022, the stage was set for a thrilling clash in women’s cricket. Indian women locked horns with arch-rivals Pakistan on 31 July 2022 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. After losing the first match against Australia, Indian women were looking to open their account in this mega event.
On the other hand, Pakistan women also lost their opening game by 15 runs to Barbados women. Hence, this match was set to be a big one irrespective of each team. However, the Indian women were much more favourite against Pakistan, coming to this clash. Now, speaking of the match, the Pakistan skipper won the toss and elected to bat first. Rain delayed the toss and thus, the match got reduced to 18 overs per side.
India Women’s Team Chased down the target in just 11.4 overs against Pakistan
Pakistan openers failed to provide a good start to the team as they lost their first wicket without opening the scorecard. Then, Munneba Ali and skipper Bismah Maroof stitched a partnership of 50 runs. But, then Pakistan experienced a collapse and they failed to recover from that. India bowled out Pakistan for 99 runs only in 18 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur used six different bowlers. Among them, Deepti Sharma only failed to grab any wicket.
In reply, the Indian openers looked in a hurry to win this match. Smriti Mandhana was looking in great touch as she started to hit boundaries from the first over itself. India lost their first wicket in the form of Shefali Verma on 61 runs in 5.5 overs. But, Mandhana remained unbeaten with a score of 63* runs off 42 balls, including eight fours and three sixes. She smashed those runs at a strike rate of 150. This win ensured India’s first-ever victory at the Commonwealth Games. India defeated Pakistan by eight wickets, with 38 balls to spare. Now, they will play against the Barbados women in their last group match on 3 August 2022.
