Sreesanth Made A Bold Statement On Virat Kohli’s Captaincy Abilities
After losing the last edition of the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli left the T20I captaincy for India. However, the Indian Cricket board shifted the whole White-ball captaincy stint to Rohit Sharma while they kept Virat as the captain in the longest format of the game. But, earlier this year, Virat left the Test captaincy also after failing to win the away Test series against the Proteas.
During his whole captaincy tenure, he managed to keep India at the number one spot in Tests for consecutive five years. He also ensured a very good winning percentage in all formats. But, Virat failed to win any major titles for India across all the formats. Now, former Indian cricketer, Sreesanth made a bold statement regarding his opinion on Virat Kohli’s captaincy.
“India would have won three World Cups under Virat if I was there” – Sreesanth
Speaking in a recent interview with CricChat on the ShareChat Audio Chatroom, Sreesanth said that he could have helped Virat to win the World Cups in 2015, 2019, and 2021, if he was there playing for India. He said: “If I would have been a part of the team under Virat’s captaincy, India would have won the World Cup in 2015, 2019 & 2021,” Meanwhile, in 2015, MS Dhoni led India in that World Cup.
He also shared his experience of winning the 2011 World Cup for India. “We won that World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar,” he concluded. However, Sreesanth was a part of India’s 2007 T20I winning squad under Dhoni’s captaincy.
Former Indian pacer played 90 International matches in his career across all three formats for India where he picked up 169 wickets. However, his career got a setback as he got nabbed by the Delhi Police on corruption charges for betting allegations in the Indian T20 League. Recently, he made a comeback for Kerala in the Ranji Trophy. He also registered himself in the recently concluded Indian T20 League auction but was not picked by any teams.
