‘Sri Lanka Cricket became the most corrupt institution’ – Roshan Ranasinghe on sacking Sri Lanka Cricket Board
In a shocking turn of events, Sri Lanka‘s government dismissed and sacked the entire Sri Lankan cricket board ahead of the team’s last match of the ODI World Cup 2023. With one game remaining before the end of the tournament, the Sri Lankan cricket team has already been eliminated from the race to qualify for the semifinals of the ODI World Cup 2023 which is being held in India across 10 multiple venues.
The Sri Lankan Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe appointed an interim committee consisting of seven members in the hope of bringing back the glory of Sri Lankan cricket. Sri Lanka’s World Cup-winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga has been appointed as the chairman of the committee to give a boost to the cricketers.
Arjuna expressed his desire to bring back the team towards making it a strong contender in Cricket, as the historic decision took place as Sri Lanka faced an embarrassing loss against India by 302 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023. The defending champions, Sri Lanka also lost to India in the Asia Cup 2023 final match in Colombo.
“I want to instil discipline and nurture players capable of reaching the pinnacle. It’s not about individuals; it’s about creating a strong team, much like in my playing days. I’ve witnessed the disappointment among Sri Lankan cricket fans and their request for my service. It’s my responsibility to direct cricket into a new era,” said Arjuna Ranatunga.

“Sri Lanka Cricket has been besieged with complaints of player disciplinary issues, management corruption, financial misconduct and match-fixing allegations. I would like to emphasise that interim measures will only be taken to establish good governance principles”, said Ranasinghe.
“Sri Lanka Cricket became known as the most corrupt institution in the country. I want to change that image. Furthermore, the Chairman of the committee will appoint sub-committees to address various areas such as administration, cricket development, and law,” he added.
