Sri Lanka great gives alarming warning for Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness
India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has had a tough since July last year. Ahead of the third ODI against England, he complained about trouble back and didn’t play the game. Two months later, Bumrah returned but only to be ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 and furthermore. In January this year, the right-arm pacer went through a back surgery in New Zealand.
As predicted at the time, the Mumbai Indians player in the IPL returned to international cricket. Since then, he has been doing well and has helped the team reach the final of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Meanwhile, ahead of the summit clash, former Sri Lanka pacer Chaminda Vaas has said that players like Jasprit Bumrah must be protected at any cost.
“Players like Jasprit Bumrah have a unique action, and we must protect individuals of such calibre. They can’t play in all formats. We need to identify the suitable format and manage their participation accordingly,” stressed Vaas, underlining the need to preserve Bumrah’s fitness and longevity in his interaction with the press.
Jasprit Bumrah will be rested and managed during the ODI World Cup 2023
In the last Super Four game against Bangladesh in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, Bumrah was rested as expected. Given the severity of his injury, these kinds of measures are expected to be taken during the ODI World Cup as well. There will be some rather easy games where players might get some rest.
