The Indian Cricket team got down to the field to take on Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final. The final began under cloud cover as the first 40 minutes were lost due to rain. Once the game began, the Sri Lankan fans were in for a shock. Mohammad Siraj destroyed the Sri Lankan batting in a single over to set the tone for the game.

Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to bat first. Even Indian skipper Rohit Sharma wanted to bat first. Maheesh Theekshana was out injured and replaced by Dushan Hemantha. For India, it was Washington Sundar who came in for the injured Axar Patel.

Mohammad Siraj carves through Sri Lankan batting –

The Sri Lankan team was placed at 8/1 after 3 overs after Bumrah got the wicket of Kusal Perera early. The fourth over saw Mohammad Siraj steam and get the wicket of Pathum Nissanka caught well by Jadeja at point.

The third ball of the over saw Sadeera Samarawickrama get out LBW to Mohammad Siraj for a duck. In walked, Charith Asalanka the hero from the previous match, and he too was out the first ball. Siraj got the ball to stop as Asalanka played early and was caught by Ishan Kishan for a duck.

The hat-trick ball saw Dhananjaya De Silva hit it for a four much to the delight of the fans. It was all over the very next ball, as De Silva got a faint edge and KL Rahul did the rest behind the stumps. Sri Lanka were reduced to 12/5 as India stormed through their opposition batting order. The onus on getting the home team out of trouble was on Kusal Mendis.

Mohammad Siraj made it his first ODI fifer when he bowled Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka for a duck. The Sri Lanka captain had no clue as the ball moved past and swung to take his off stump. The home fans were shell-shocked as the team was down in the doldrums at 12/6 in the 6th over with just the lower–order left to bat.
