Sri Lanka women’s team get past Thailand by 8 wickets in Asian Games 2023 Quarterfinals

Thailand Women cricket team and Sri Lanka women cricket team recently encountered each other in the quarter-final three match of 19th edition of the Asian games on 21 September 2023, Thursday in Hangzhou, China at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field. Due to heavy downpour and wet outfield in the stadium, the match was reduced to 15 overs for both the innings from 20 overs.
Sri Lanka women’s cricket team won the toss and chose to bowl first while inviting the inexperienced Thailand women’s cricket team to bat first, in the hope of dismissing the batting lineup for a low score. As expected by the Sri Lanka women’s cricket team, the Thailand women’s cricket team set a low target on the board at the end of 15 overs.

Chanida Sutthiruang and Nattaya Boochatham of the Thailand women’s cricket team scored 31 and 9 runs off 24 and 12 deliveries with a strike rate of 129.17 and 75, respectively. The team’s middle-order batsman Chanida Sutthiruang scored 3 fours to lead Thailand women’s cricket team to a score of 78-7.
Thailand women’s cricket team miserably failed to defend the target of 77 runs and Sri Lanka women’s cricket team won at the end of 10.5 overs in the 15 over match. The Sri Lanka women’s cricket team’s opening batters Anushka Sanjeewani and Chamari Athapaththu became the highest scorers for the team by scoring 32 and 27 runs off 23 and 21 deliveries respectively.
