‘Stumps ke paise recover kr lia’ – Fans react Virat Kohli fined 24 Lakhs for maintaining slow overrate against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023
The stand-in skipper for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Rajasthan Royals match, Virat Kohli, received a massive fine of Rs 24 lakh after his team failed to complete its overs in time at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday, April 23. The whole Bangalore playing XI, including Impact Player Faf du Plessis, has been penalized 25% of their match fees in addition to Virat Kohli. In an announcement to the media on Monday night, the Indian Cricket Board asserted that RCB had broken the regulations from the Rajasthan match.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Mr. Virat Kohli as their Captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023. As it was his team’s second offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Mr. Kohli has been fined Rs. 24 lahks and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, is fined Rs. 6 lahks or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is lesser,” IPL wrote in their release.
The counter-attack from Maxi and Faf was even better than the Chennai game: Virat Kohli
Due to Faf du Plessis’ injury, Kohli led RCB to a string of victories. Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, two foreigners, both scored half-centuries to help RCB in posting 189-9 against RR. That ultimately proved to be sufficient, thanks to some strong bowling performances by the home team in the afternoon match.
“The counter-attack from Maxi and Faf was even better than the Chennai game, it was a better surface that day. Maxi took the game away in just four overs. We thought 160 might be enough but the way they batted helped us to 190.” Kohli was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation after winning the match.
