‘Wow India created history’ – Fans react as Team India beat New Zealand by 4 wickets in ODI World Cup 2023
Team India won their fifth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 after defeating New Zealand on October 22 at the HPCA in Dharamshala. Speaking about the match here, it was India’s skipper Rohit Sharma who won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first in the game. Notably, after being sent to bat first, the Men in Blue had a great start as they dismissed CSK star opener Devon Conway for the duck while star batsman Will Young was dismissed for just 17 runs, which gave them an early breakthrough.
However, star middle-order batsmen Rachin Ravindra and Daryll Mitchell changed the momentum of the game with their superb form and scintillating knocks. Rachin Ravindra piles up 75 runs from 87 balls, including six boundaries and a six. In addition, Daryll Mitchell struck out a magnificent century as he smashed 130 runs from 127 balls, featuring nine boundaries and five sixes that boosted their middle order in the game.
Following them, skipper Tom Latham was only able to get five runs. However, Glenn Phillips was looking tremendous, but he was dismissed for 23 runs. Later, in the end, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, and Lockie Ferguson departed after scoring runs in the single digit. Meanwhile, India’s opener, Mohammed Shami, who was playing his first game of the ODI World Cup 2023, took a 5-wicket haul against New Zealand.

However, during the chase, the hosts team also had a decent start as skipper Rohit Sharma hammered 48 runs from 40 balls, featuring four boundaries and four sixes with a solid strike rate of 116, while star batsman Shubman Gill got 26 runs. Following them, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer was looking in solid form; however, he was departed for 33 runs.
The LSG skipper, KL Rahul, had a great stand with India’s stalwart Virat Kohli before scoring 27 runs in the play. Mumbai Indians star Suryakumar Yadav has continued his poor form in the 50-over format as he gets run out for just 2 runs. However, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja’s great partnership helped India win the game against the Black Caps by 4 wickets.
