India’s win against Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23, Sunday, is still cherished and Virat Kohli, the Indian giant, has been receiving appreciation from all ends for his heroics that helped the Men in Blue breach the target of 160.

Dinesh Karthik, who came in the last over, perished in the 5th ball when India required 2 runs to win. However, Ravichandran Ashwin, who came in to face the final ball, manage to let the ball slide towards the leg side which was eventually called a wide. With the scores tied, the off-spinner came up with a drive to seal the match for India with 4 wickets to spare.

The Indian cricket board’s social media team uploaded a video on their social media accounts on Tuesday in which Karthik can be seen thanking Ashwin for saving his career. The wicketkeeper is playing the role of a finisher for team India and he failed to pull it off against Pakistan.

That was a very brave thing to do: Kohli

Kohli, who scored an unbeaten 82 against Babar Azam and his men, said after the match that Ashwin remained calm and composed in the crunch situation. Further, the veteran added that the off-spinner’s move to let the ball slide towards the leg side was a brave one.

“When you need 15-16 runs per over, and then the equation comes down to 2 runs off 2 balls, people can get relaxed or over-excited that this target is almost achieved. Then Dinesh Karthik got out, I told Ashwin to hit over the covers. But uss time pe Ash ne dimaag ke uppar extra dimaag lagya (Ashwin used his brain at that point of time). That was a very brave thing to do, he came inside the line and the ball turned out to be a wide. The situation was that if the ball goes into the gap, we will end up winning and that is what happened,” Kohli was quoted as saying after the match by Star Sports.
