‘The feeling of being Barca coach is cruel’ – Xavi Hernandez to resign at end of season
FC Barcelona manager and former Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has announced that he will be leaving the club. Barcelona lost the match against Villareal by 5-3 on January 27, Saturday. He took that decision after the loss.
The Catalan’s recent home loss to Villareal leaves them 10 points behind Real Madrid in the point table. The race for the La Liga title is looking grey for Barcelona as they are eight points behind Girona. Saturday’s defeat marked the first time Barcelona has conceded five goals at home in La Liga since 1963.
Barcelona’s performance this season has not been great
Xavi Hernandez had told Club President Joan Laporta, Sporting Vice President Rafa Yuest and Director of Football Deco of his decision to leave his post at the end of the season. “I had taken days ago but today was the moment to announce it,” said Xavi at the press conference.
Xavi went on to say that he didn’t want to be a problem at the club but rather be a solution for the side. “I don’t want to be a problem. I want to be a solution for Barça as I was two years ago,” added Xavi.
He continued that even the Champions League would not change his decision, “I have the feeling that I am doing the right thing, that I, that I am acting with common sense, I think the club needs a change of dynamics, the dynamics is very negative. I am more optimistic than ever with this change of dynamic .. we will go for La Liga, It’s very difficult but we will fight.”
Players, including midfielder Frenkie de Jong, expressed their concerns about the technical team and said, “There is full confidence in the technical team, it’s the fault of the players.”
Xavi thanked Barcelona’s president for his confidence during his tenure, he still remains optimistic about Barca’s chance to win trophies this season.
