The Chennai franchise has been the most consistent in the history of the Indian T20 League. They have played 12 seasons under the leadership of MS Dhoni, winning 4 titles and playing nine finals. Chennai failed to qualify for the playoffs only in the 2020 season.

But just before the beginning of the 2022 Indian T20 League season, MSD stepped down from the role handing over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja. Under the allrounder’s leadership, Chennai is having a terrible time in the tournament. They have lost six of their eight matches and are languishing at the ninth position in the points table. Under the added responsibilities of leading the team, Jadeja has also not been close to his original self.

In what comes in as a piece of big news, Jadeja has decided to hand over the leadership duties back to MS Dhoni to concentrate on his game. ‘Captain Cool’ has respected Jadeja’s decision and will be leading the men in yellow for the rest of the Indian T20 League 2022.

The news was confirmed by an official statement by the franchise that read – “Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead Chennai.”

“MS Dhoni has accepted to lead Chennai in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game.”

Twitter went crazy as soon as the news went viral. Notably, MSD is the most successful captain in the history of the tournament in terms of win percentage. He has led Chennai in 204 matches winning 121 of them and losing 82. This makes his win percentage 59.60 %.  Thus, his taking back the leadership role has given the fans of the team hope that they can witness a miraculous turnaround in the tournament.
