‘The king is back to doing what he does best’ – Fans celebrate as Virat Kohli scores another hundred in third ODI against Sri Lanka
Virat Kohli has scored the 46th hundred of his ODI career in the ongoing third game against Sri Lanka. He came out to bat after India lost the wicket of skipper Rohit Sharma (42). The opening pair of Sharma and Shubman Gill put together 95 runs for the first wicket. Meanwhile, the former India skipper started his innings with a second-ball four.
In the 17th over, the right-hander scored two crisp boundaries against Jefferey Wandersey. After this, he kept taking single and hit an occasional boundary. With this, he and Gill stitched a partnership of 131 runs in just 100 balls. The latter scored his second ODI hundred. After the opening batter got out, Kohli took over to increase the scoring rate. At the time, the 2008 U19 World Cup-winning captain had scored 59 runs.
The Delhi player scored his first six hundred in the 41st over. Apparently, the long-on fielder misjudged the height of the ball and ran in. However, before the fielder could make up for his mistake, the ball sailed over the boundary. At this point, Virat was batting on 82. Two over later, the Bangalore player in the Indian T20 League reached his 46th ODI hundred, only four short of going past Sachin Tendulkar.
The latter has 49 hundred in 464 games for India. Meanwhile, Kohli took a single in the 43rd over to reach the landmark.
Virat Kohli has accelerated the scoring rate after scoring his hundred
After getting to his hundred, the two-time World Championship winner has upped the ante. In the 45th over, he hit two back-to-back sixes against Chamika Karunaratne. Two overs later, he once again two sixes against Kasun Rajitha, who is having a bad day with the ball since his fifth over. Early in the innings, the Sri Lanka bowler conceded 23 runs in his fifth. Meanwhile, at the time of writing, Kohli is finished at 166 not out. The Men In Blue reached a humungous 390/5 at the end of the innings
