‘There is no shortage of talent’ – Kapil Dev on India’s squad for Asia Cup 2023
India’s first World Cup and captain Kapil Dev recently analyzed the Indian Cricket team’s squad ahead of Asia Cup 2023. The continental tournament is set to commence from 30th August in a hybrid model in Pakistan in Sri Lanka, while India will play all of their matches in Sri Lanka due to political tensions with Pakistan.
The Indian cricket board recently announced the team squad in a press conference with the head of the selection committee, Ajit Agarakar and India’s current all format Captain Rohit Sharma. India’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, 2023 is believed to be similar to the one the board has selected for the Asia Cup.
India will be hosting the ODI World Cup 2023 after 12 years and the board is expecting to announce the preliminary squad for the tournament by 5 September after looking at the performances of players in the initial few matches of the Asia Cup.
The Indian squad has been a camp of multiple injuries, with players like Shreyas Iyer, KL, Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah coming back from playing multiple practice matches in the NCA.

“Ideally every player should be tested out. The World Cup is so close, but you still haven’t given the players a chance? What if they head to the World Cup and then get injured? The entire team will suffer. Here, at least they will get a chance to bat or bowl a little and get some rhythm going,” said Kapil Dev.
“Worst case scenario, if the guys get injured again during the World Cup, it will be unfair to the players who will miss out on being part of the squad. The injured players who have returned need to be given a chance. If they are fit, then can play the World Cup. There is no shortage of talent, but if they are not fit, India will have a chance to make changes to the World Cup squad right away,” added Kapil Dev.
