‘These youngsters have to prove themselves’ – Ravi Shastri slams Shubman Gill after his poor performance in 2nd Test
Shubman Gill is facing a tough time in his career, especially in Test cricket. Last year, in March, Shubman scored a century in the Border Gavaskar trophy and was ruling the cricketing world. However, his life has changed completely in a year. Now, Gill is struggling to score runs in Test cricket and if this continues, he might as well lose his place in the squad. After constant failures, cricket experts and former cricketers have started questioning Gill’s presence in the team. Similarly, India’s former coach, Ravi Shastri showed his frustration after Gill failed to score in the 2nd Test match. Shastri didn’t take his name, however, it was clearly understood.
Shastri, while doing commentary said, “It’s a fresh side, a young side. These youngsters have to prove themselves. Don’t forget, Pujara is waiting. He is grinding it out at the Ranji Trophy and is always on the radar.”
In the absence of Virat Kohli, Gill was supposed to take charge of the top order along with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. While Jaiswal’s constant performance impressed the audience and the experts, Rohit’s failure has left them disappointed. Since he is the captain, everybody is waiting for him to make a comeback. If the top-order fires, England will find it difficult to win the match.
Chesteshwar Pujara in red-hot form
As the selectors rooted for the youngsters in the Test series against England, they missed out on one of the best Test players of the game, Chesteshwar Pujara. Currently, while playing Ranji, Pujara is in red-hot form as he scored a double century in the match against Jharkhand. His other scores are 49, 43, 43, 66 and 91.
With Pujara in amazing form, and Virat Kohli returning to the squad, Gill’s position is definitely in danger if he fails to perform in the upcoming matches. It will be interesting to see how Gill responds to the criticism and maintain his performance in the upcoming matches.
