Another Champions League and another Title to Real Madrid’s name. The final of the UEFA Champions League 2022 took place at Stade de France in Paris. Courtesy of Vinicius Jr’s goal Real Madrid clinched victory in the match and brought home their 14th title, the most by any team in the history of the competition. This was also their fifth title in the last nine years.

Ahead of the all-important competition experts and pundits were putting Liverpool as the favorites in the competition given their range and diversity of attacking options. But the whole Real Madrid site put in a great show of defensive football and kept their composure when put under pressure to win the match and the tournament. Thibaut Courtois played like a man possessed in the match, making a total of nine saves and holding the fort strong for his team.

Notably, the match started 37 minutes late due to a disturbing crowd issue outside the stadium.  This evoked the memories of the violence that affected the European Championship final at Wembley in 2021.

Speaking about the match, it was the Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr who scored the lone goal of the match. It was a close-range finish by the Brazilian from Federico Valverde’s drive across the face of the goal. Although the credit for the win must be given to the Belgian goalkeeper of Real Madrid. Courtois made breathtaking saves of lethal attempts by Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane.

After the match, he said- “Today nobody was going to get in my way. I was going to win a Champions League no matter what.”

Notably, this was the fourth European title for Carlo Ancelotti, the most by a manager in the history of the tournament. With the win in the match Real also completed a La-Liga-Champions League double in the season. The road to the finals for the team was not an easy one. They had made some sensational comebacks on their way to the summit clash in matches against PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City. This title run will be remembered as the most intense run in the history of the competition.
