‘Third class person’ – Twitter bashes Jonny Bairstow for mocking Sri Lankan national anthem
England’s opening batter, Jonny Bairstow is currently resting at home as he was ruled out of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. He sustained a freak injury at a golf course around a month before the tournament. His team has mixed fortunes as they have won one, lots as many, and their last game was washed out. In the midst of all this, Bairstow has found himself in a trouble.
Apparently right after the national anthems ahead of the New Zealand vs Sri Lanka game at the SCG, Jonny made some sharp remarks on Sri Lanka’s national anthem. After the anthems ended, the 2019 ODI World Cup winner took to Twitter and commented on the anthem. He wrote ‘Is the Sri Lanka National Anthem the longest in the world? Some people can’t remember 1 verse of the English and don’t know the second! great effort!

This has attracted a lot of criticism from the fans. Talking about the anthem, it was written after the island nation got independence in 1948. Remembering Ananda Samarkone’s, the anthem was written in Sinhala. After a few years, there were a few changes made due to controversy related to the first lines of the anthem. Notably, some lyrics of the anthem are written in Tamil. Even though there were demands of removing Tamil lyrics, the public backlash led to the idea being scrapped.
This is how Twitter reacted

New Zealand beat Sri Lanka comfortably
Meanwhile, talking about New Zealand vs Sri Lanka game, the last year’s finalists registered a comfortable victory. Batting first, the Kiwis scored 167/7, courtesy of Glenn Phillips‘s hundred. Notably, this is the only century in the ongoing tournament so far. In reply, the 2014 winners had a horrific start as they lost four wickets after scoring just eight runs. They could never recover from the early jolts and were restricted to 102 all-out. Trent Boult took four wickets in the game.
