In the ongoing Super 12 game of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 between New Zealand and Sri Lanka, Glenn Phillips came to the rescue. After electing to bat first, the Kiwis were in grave trouble as they lost three wickets from just 15 runs. Phillips came out to bat after the Blackcaps lost their second wicket in the form of Devon Conway. 15/3, the team looked like going down very easily.

However, the right-hander had different ideas. He started his innings with a boundary on only his second ball of the innings. However, after the wicket of skipper Kane Williamson, he decided to take the game deep. After playing 36 balls, the Kiwi scored 41 runs including three fours and a six. In the 14th over, he completed his half-century after scoring two boundaries. There was no stopping him after reaching his fifty.

In the next five overs, he started hitting plenty of boundaries to complete his century. After reaching the landmark, he was seen celebrating wildly and had some similarities with WWE legend, John Cena.

Phillips’ innings helped the 2021 finalists reach a competitive total of 167/7 at the end of the innings. At the time of writing, the total is proving way too much for the 2014 winners. They have lost eight wickets and have scored only 84 runs in 15.2 overs. Trent Boult laid the foundation for the Men In Black with the ball as he took three wickets to derail Sri Lanka’s innings.

They haven’t been able to recover from the early jolts and have been struggling to stitch a partnership. The writing is pretty much on the wall. New Zealand would look to register another victory by a big margin. Earlier, they beat hosts and defending champions, Australia by 89 runs.
